Information from the Visit MT website and Maryilyn Enderson:
The Belt Museum is housed in the old jail building next to the foot bridge over Belt Creek, a building that was originally built as a city jail in 1895 during the boom years of the coal mines.  During this time the city was commonly referred to as 'Little Pittsburgh,' 'Coal Banks,' or 'Black Diamond City.' The museum's exhibits include a historic jail cell, a coal mine, records and photos, and the work of local artists.
